    FAQs

Emergency First Aid is the entry-level option and is 8 hours long, or half in person and half online if you choose blended learning.

Standard First Aid is more advanced and usually runs over 2 days, though we primarily offer it as a blended course with one day online reading from home and one day in our office.

As it includes more topics, SFA gives you a deeper skill set for both workplace and home use.

Which course you need depends on your workplace requirements, and those are usually set by WorkSafeBC based on factors like the number of employees, how far the workplace is from the nearest hospital, and the type of work being done.

Most workplaces only require Emergency First Aid, but Standard First Aid is often a smart choice because it covers more situations and gives you broader real-world knowledge.

Early Childhood Educators (ECE) typically require Emergency Child Care First Aid due to BC Childcare Licensing regulations.

Most first aid certificates are valid for 3 years. The main exception is BLS, which is valid for 1 year. If you are planning ahead for work or recertification, it is a good idea to keep track of your expiry date so your certification does not lapse.

As WorkSafeBC no longer allows shorter recertifications (the full course has to be retaken to be valid), we offer discounted rates on our full courses for anybody renewing with us.

Yes, both Emergency First Aid and Standard First Aid can be done in blended format, and private groups can choose either option for themselves.

We offer Emergency First Aid weekly with fully in-person and blended options, while Standard First Aid is typically one full day online at home and one day in our office. This gives learners flexibility while still meeting training requirements.

Same-day certification is possible if requested in advance. Otherwise, students receive a certificate of completion first, and the final certificate is emailed by the Red Cross within 2 to 3 business days. This keeps the process simple while still giving you proof of training quickly.

Absolutely! Aside from regular private on-site classes, we offer fully customizable First Aid Workshops tailored to your needs, hosted by certified Red Cross Instructors.

This can include topics such as Mental Health, First Aid for New Parents, or a low-cost introduction to First Aid for communities.
