Why is having a First Aid kit important?

Having a First Aid kit is important to keep you and your family safe and prepared for emergencies of any kind. Having your First Aid kit accessible, where it can be retrieved quickly during an emergency, is equally essential.

Everyone in your family should know where the First Aid kits are stored. At Pacific First Aid, we recommend having a few different First Aid kits stored in different areas around your house. Aside from the various purposes and convenience each First Aid kit provides, in the event of a large-scale emergency like an earthquake, if one part of your house collapses, you could try to retrieve a First Aid kit from another part of the house. Each First Aid kit should have its own designated area and that should be put back to its “home” after its been used.

Essential locations to store your first aid kit

Where you choose to store your First Aid kit will depend on where you live and what your living area looks like. Here are some locations to consider:

  • In a sturdy area that is least likely to collapse during an earthquake, like a closet under the staircase, or in a room with interior walls
  • In an outside shed or garage if possible
  • Near an exterior window, door, or entrance for easy retrieval
  • In the kitchen, on the countertop or in a cabinet/drawer
  • In the car
  • At the workplace, in a visible spot, on the wall, on the countertop or in a clearly labelled cabinet.

Always store your First Aid kit in a dry area. The bathroom is NOT recommended as a storage area due to its humidity.
