This course is specially designed for food industry workers. It’s recommended by the provincial health authorities and local hospitality associations for employees in restaurants, cafés, and hotels. Students will complete both in-class learning and written exams. Upon successful completion, participants will receive an official certificate. This certification is highly beneficial for anyone seeking employment in the food and beverage industry — and in some regions, it is mandatory.

    • Microbiology

    • Correct cleaning and sanitizing methods

    Course Details

    • Duration: 8 hours

    • Languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, or English

    • Age Requirement: 15 years and older

    • Instructor: Certified Food Safety Instructor

    • Note: Limited seats available early registration is recommended

    Passing Requirements

    • Written Exam: Minimum 70% to pass

    • Attendance: 100% participation required

    • If your exam score is between 60–69%, you may retake the test once for free.

    • If you fail again, you must re-enroll and pay the course fee again.

    Certificate

    • Issued by Vancouver Coastal Health

    • Recognized FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate (valid for 5 years)

    • Certificates are typically issued within one month after passing the exam.

    • You will receive an email notification when it’s ready for pickup or mailing.

    Policies and Terms

    1. Course Confirmation

    • A minimum of 10 students is required for each class.

    • If the course needs to be rescheduled or canceled, participants will be notified at least 5 business days in advance.

    2. Payment and Refund Policy

    • Fees are due at registration.

    • Refund and transfer requests are handled according to the following terms:

    Course Cancellation by Student

    Time of Cancellation Policy
    28+ days before class $15 administrative fee will be deducted; remaining amount refunded.
    1–27 days before class $25 administrative fee will be deducted; remaining amount refunded. If a medical note or other valid documentation is provided, the admin fee may be waived.
    Same day as class No refund. Only accepted under special circumstances with medical proof. $25 admin fee still applies.


    Class Transfer (Rescheduling)

    Time of Request Policy
    28+ days before class Free transfer.
    1–27 days before class $25 administrative fee applies. Fee may be waived with valid medical documentation.
    Same day as class Transfers not permitted, except in special cases with medical proof.
