Step 1 – Skills Evaluation and Prerequisite Check

Group session for learners to demonstrate readiness in all First Aid & CPR skills outlined in the Canadian Red Cross Skill Sheets. Successful performance without repeated correction is required to continue in the program.

Step 2 – Fundamentals of Instruction

Online and 2-day classroom components teach core instructional principles and build confidence in teaching. Successful completion and attendance is required to advance to the next step.

Step 3 – Discipline-Specific Classroom

Learners practice teaching specific First Aid course components during this 2-day classroom session. Hands-on microteaching, full attendance, active participation, and adherence to the Canadian Red Cross Standards of Behaviour are required for completion.

Step 4 – Teaching Experience

Co-teach a First Aid course under the guidance of a certified Teaching Experience Supervisor (TES). This hands-on classroom experience is essential for building confidence and instructional skills, and must be successfully completed (up to three attempts) before certification.

Step 5 – Certification

Congratulations! You are now certified as a Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR-C Instructor. Your First Aid and CPR Instructor certificate is available for download once all program components have been successfully completed. Certified Instructors can teach Emergency & Standard First Aid, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency & Standard Child Care and CPR courses, with online access to teaching resources and ongoing professional support.
