Certified Youth Leaders are qualified to deliver the Stay Safe! and Babysitting courses through a Red Cross Training Partner. Please pick the soonest available date on the calendar below, for us to process your registration. The date you select does not affect your booking.

Youth Leaders support the Red Cross Youth First Aid Programs through the delivery of the Stay Safe! and Babysitting Courses. Leader Development Program, designed to prepare them to support the dynamic, learner-centered classroom environments.

Step 1 – Pre-Requisites Check:

  • 18 Years of Age Upon completion
  • Valid Standard First Aid certificate

You will be given your additional course materials, you will have 60 days to move on to Step 2

Step 2 – Fundamentals of Instruction:

Step two consists of an online component, where you will learn the fundamentals of Instruction.

  • Fundamental of Instructions Online Component
    • Approx. 8 Hours

Step 3 – Teaching Experience:

Step three consists of a classroom component* that provides the experience of teaching in a real classroom with the support of a Teaching Experience Supervisor. This can be completed through us, or a provider close to you. (Exemptions explained below.)

  • Classroom Component
    • Varies by candidate (Max. 3 attempts)

Upon completion, please send your paperwork back to your Instructor Trainer or programs@pacificfirstaid.ca.

Step 4 – Certification!

The final step is certification. Congratulations! You are now officially a certified as a Youth Leader.

* Individuals who meet any of the following criteria are exempt from Step 3: Teaching Experience. This includes elementary or secondary educators and those holding a current certification in any of the following: Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor, HIGH FIVE Trainer, National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 2 or higher (any sport), Canadian Aquafitness Leaders Alliance (CALA) Instructor, Water Art Instructor, or Canadian Fitness Professionals (CANFit PRO). They will still follow the Instructor Development Program but are not required to complete Step 3.
